Project Description
I’m Simon and I studied Biomedical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, focusing on advanced biomaterials. I began my work on bioabsorbable endovascular devices at Fibrothelium GmbH and I am now excited to continue this work within BIOMEND.
As part of my PhD research, I focus on in-vitro performance verification, specifically investigating the mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour of Mg- & Zn-based bioabsorbable alloys. My work involves:
- Establishing standardised in-vitro test protocols
- Assess the mechanical and corrosion performance of bioabsorbable materials under physiological conditions
- micro-computed tomography (µCT) to analyse the spatial and temporal progression of corrosion
- Focusing on pitting parameters following ASTM-G94 standards
- Design, manufacture, and test micron-scale specimens from braided and laser-cut vascular stent structures in collaboration with DC3 to evaluate corrosion effects on structural integrity
This research will enhance the understanding of bioabsorbable materials and contribute to the development of next-generation vascular stents.
